Introducing a New Partnership
Like many organizations, during the pandemic, we have had to pivot to accommodate working from home while continuing to provide consultation, education and resources to medical professionals and providers of Hospice Palliative Care throughout Waterloo and Wellington.
Given we are no longer able to provide palliative education in the usual manner, we are announcing a new and exciting partnership to make our courses available in a leading-edge virtual learning environment. This collaboration between the Palliative Pain & Symptom Management Programs of Waterloo Wellington (Hospice Waterloo Region, Waterloo) and Southwest & Erie-St. Clair (St. Joseph’s Health Care, London) is called:
Partnering for Palliative Education
Our Vision
The vision for this partnership is to transform the way learners gain knowledge about a palliative approach to care. We will achieve this transformation through migrating the foundational palliative education courses (developed by our programs) to a format that benefits a learner’s experience; is easy to use and is accessible for our learners and the provincial palliative educators who will use our site. The site will be powered by D2L’s Brightspace Learning Environment.
- What are the criteria to participate in HPC courses? Please visit our website to determine your eligibility for participation.
- When will online courses be available? We are currently in the pilot phase. You will be notified via our email distribution list as soon as the courses are scheduled. Not on our list? Sign up now!
- Are there other learning opportunities available? Healthcare providers need quick access to evidence-informed resources and tools, thus, we have created some mini palliative care education videos.
Benefits of eLearning
We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our learners. Students may participate from anywhere, on any internet-enabled device (smartphone, tablet, computer) and learn at a more flexible pace. This fully accessible and scalable platform provides many advantages:
- Simplified and consistent user experience
- Easy to follow user interface
- Interactive learning – discussion forums, videos, games, quizzes
- Streamlined communication
- Reliable and responsive performance
- 24/7 technical support
- Global accessibility standards; interoperable with assistive technologies.
In the future, we hope to move toward a blended virtual and face-to-face education model, when it becomes safe for health care providers, from different organizations, to gather.
